Smile Correction through Transparent clip for teeth

If you start wondering what ‘transparent clip’ is, as soon as you read the heading then don’t get confused, ‘transparent clip’ is a layman’s term for nothing else but clear braces. As clear braces are transparent and they snug fit on your teeth to move them to the correct position, they are often called ‘transparent clips’ in casual language. However, the correct terminology for the transparent clip is ‘invisible braces’ or ‘clear aligners’.

A person suffering from misaligned teeth is often advised to go for orthodontic treatment. In medical terms, misaligned teeth are addressed as ‘malocclusions’. It is a term that defines the improper arrangement of teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both.

Malocclusions can be divided into three categories:

Class I Malocclusions: In this case category, the patient has a normal bite but the teeth in the upper jaw overlap the teeth in the lower jaw slightly. The other discrepancies in teeth arrangement might include, gaps between the teeth, over-crowding, rotated teeth, etc.

Class II Malocclusions: In this case category, the patient has noticeable misalignment as the teeth in the upper jaw extend outwards and rest on the lower jaw. This makes the upper jaw protrude forward. This condition is also known as an overbite.

Class III Malocclusions: In this case category, the lower jaw seems to extend forward and the upper jaw and teeth overlap the lower jaw. This condition is also known as under-bite.

What case category can be treated through clear aligners or transparent clips?

Clear braces or transparent clips can effectively address Class I and Class II malocclusions. When a patient approaches the doctor for smile correction treatment, the doctor analyses the case category to which the patient belongs and suggests the treatment accordingly. The clear aligners have shown the highest success rate for class I and class II malocclusion where the upper jaw teeth are prominently extended forward and overlap the lower jaw. If the patient is willing to go for transparent clip treatment then the 3D oral scan of the teeth is done to analyze the teeth’ condition thoroughly. Once the 3D scan is over, the concerned doctor designs a complete treatment plan and makes the patient understand the milestones needed to achieve to get the perfect smile.

During the course of the smile correction treatment through clear aligners, the patient is given custom-designed aligner sets at different stages of the treatment. When the treatment is over, the patient is given ‘retainers’ to maintain the teeth alignment achieved. Retainers are removable trays like clear aligners that refrain the teeth from moving back to their original position. Retainers are thicker than aligners and hence sturdier in order to prevent relapse.

Which brands offer great results even for Class III malocclusion?

Be it Class I, Class II, or Class III malocclusion, the result varies from brand to brand and also from patient to patient. International brands of clear aligners like Invisalign offer the best results for any case category. They have the best-in-class technology and systems. Invisalign is a market leader and it claims that through advanced technology they have, it can even treat complex case categories. However, apart from the brand of clear aligners the treatment results also depend hugely on the patient’s compliance with the treatment.

For complex cases, Indian brands like 32 Watts clear aligners, Flash orthodontics, Illusion, etc. are known to have treated Class I and Class II cases successfully. However, if a patient is looking for transparent clip treatment for Class III malocclusions then he/she can go for ‘hybrid clear aligner treatment’. Hybrid clear aligner treatment merges the traditional metal braces treatment and clear aligner treatment to achieve desired results.

The complex cases are first treated through metal brackets and wires for a limited time duration to bring down the severity of the misalignment. Afterward, the treatment is carried forward by clear aligners.

What is a better transparent clip or metal wire?

We would recommend a transparent clip over metal wire any day as it saves the patient from pain, food restrictions, and social consciousness as experienced during metal braces treatment. Metal wires are showy and painful while clear aligners are transparent, removable, and painless. Transparent braces are best suited for people who wish to undergo smile correction treatment without letting anyone notice. A patient who has complex misalignment but does not want to go for metal braces can opt for hybrid clear aligner treatment to get the best of both worlds.
